Victorian Batman & Batwoman Portraits
One of the few, more impressive works at the Mr. Brainwash show in L.A. were these Victorian- (or Edwardian-) type portraits of a man and women with Batman and Batwoman masks.

As promised in our previous post, here are more images from the Mr. Brainwash “Artshow 2011″ in Los Angeles.
Mr. Brainwash Artshow 2011 in LA
We’re in Los Angeles this week checking out the new, massive Mr. Brainwash exhibition dubbed “Artshow 2011.” Mr. Brainwash is French street artist Thierry Guetta, who many readers will know was the subject of the Oscar-nominated documentary film “Exit Through the Gift Shop” directed by Banksy.
Brainwash was on hand at the exhibition signing posters and postcards for visitors who were there in the hundreds in the gigantic multi-story industrial space that had been re-purposed as the studio and exhibition venue at 960 N. La Brea in Hollywood.
The first batch of pix from the show were live-blog-posted via iPhone, so the images are a bit dark and unclear.
Included in this batch are images of of some previously explored visual themes, such as the massive wheat-paste-ups of model Kate Moss; a giant Polaroid camera; a giant spray-paint can in homage to Andy Warhol’s famous Campbell’s soup cans; a graffiti-bombed stove; and Guetta himself, barely visible, signing posters for the punters.
We’ll be posting more in the coming day or two.

What the Bird Saw
Our man with the eyes in Los Angeles, Josh, delivers some street-art goodness this week including this pic he snapped of a stencil-like image of a bird looking at a question mark. This was spotted at the intersection of Orange and Melrose streets in Hollywood.

Mr. Brainwash Massive in L.A.
Our man in Los Angeles, Josh, snapped pictures of this massive work by Mr. Brainwash (Thierry Guetta) on Santa Monica Boulevard. The usual brainwash visuals and messaging are deployed here: Warholian homagery a la Campbell’s soup-can, 1970s-’80s “Memorex Man” TV commercial image and “Life is beautiful.” Mr. Brainwash, as many readers of this blog know, was the subject of Banky’s award-winning documentary film “Exit Through the Gift Shop.” Many thanks for the pix, Josh!

Cocktails at the San Franciscan
The partially lit sign (with missing letters) at the San Franciscan, a classic suburban lounge in Torrance, California, near Los Angeles. The decor and style of this place is practically intact from the 1970s. Got to love that there’s live music “URS TO SUN.”

Lincoln + Rose
On the back exterior wall of the massive Whole Foods supermarket in Venice, the iconic Los Angeles neighborhood near Santa Monica, there’s an awesome mural of United States president Abraham Lincoln and a large rose flower. It’s a literal, visual translation of the location of the market, which is at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Rose Avenue, not far from the popular Abbot-Kinney section of Venice.

Green Fixie
Walking around the Abbott-Kinney section of the Venice neighborhood, in Los Angeles, we see a lot of awesome bicycles parked on the sidewalks. Here’s a beautiful green-and-black fixed gear (or fixie) bike locked up in front of Intelligentsia Coffee.
