Vintage Book Cover Design

We were walking up Lafayette Street when we found this vintage-style Western-adventure paperback novel set on the steps to a cast-iron building. (The building was near the mysteriously plain and discreet false-back-front entrance to Imperial Nine and the Mondrian Hotel SoHo.) The book seemed to have been placed on the steps deliberately. The novel is titled “Mr. Tucket.” Its author is Gary Paulsen, who has written a saga of these books for children. The cover design evokes an era of American book publishing from the mid-twentieth century.

The Surf Photography of Leroy Grannis

This week we added a striking new volume from Taschen to our library of coffee-table photography books at Global Graphica HQ. “Leroy Grannis, Surf Photography of the 1960s and 1970s” is a massive retrospective collection of iconic photographs by one of the leading image-makers of the the genre and the era. Grannis witnessed and exhaustively documented surfing’s modern evolution as sport and sub-culture in Southern California and Hawaii.  We love the picture the editors at Taschen chose for the cover.
